Naturally Tough
The key to a low-maintenance garden is placing plants where they naturally thrive. Gardener Jon Carloftis plants leggy native black-eyed susans with flowing ornamental grasses in a sunny border garden. He pays attention to which plants grow well without coaxing from chemical fertilizers and insecticides. When he spots a plant that's blooming with abandon, he plants more of it.
