Insect magnets
Bees and butterflies—like people—are in general drawn to brightly petaled, sweet-smelling flowers, and lucky is the eco-centric gardener hoping to attract these insects because opportunities abound in garden centers and catalogs. Many garden catalogs list whether selections are butterfly or bee friendly. Lots of these good-bug magnets can easily be grown by seed and many are drought-tolerant and disease-resistant, so if you have sunny spots (even in a window box or patio pot), click through the slide show to see a few reliable contenders.
