Sometimes it pays to replace
In the average home, almost half of the utility bills are for home heating and cooling. Depending on your climate, a new gas furnace achieving an Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency (AFUE) ratings of over 90 percent will pay for itself in just a few years when replacing a unit with 65 percent efficiency. For air conditioners, look for an Energy Star model with a Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER) rating over 13.

The Lennox G71P variable-capacity gas furnace has an AFUE of 95 percent. Lennox.com
