Measure, level, and mark
Decorative painter Kaki Foley begins with a simple pencil layout of the trim. A long ruler and bubble level keep the lines straight, level, and plumb. The ruler also helps center the trim panel on the wall. For the Idea Home bedroom, Kaki drew a pair of lines about 2 inches apart to mark the outside edges of the trim. For a trial run, you can draw a panel directly on the wall with white chalk.
