• Brighten Up Mary painted the exterior of her Creole cottage notice-me Citron (2024-30). She mixed Spanish brown, a traditional Creole color, for the exterior doors; a close match is Hodley Red (HC-65). She called out the trim with blue-accented Smoke (2120-40).
• Go for Patina Mary and Tomio brushed flaking paint off of old cypress weatherboards to reveal the silvery color of the planks below. • Stay Authentic "This was the original color of the room," Mary says of the kitchen. She matched it with North Sea Green (2053-30). In addition, the baseboards throughout are all flat black or Spanish brown, typical in Creole houses. • Keep Cool In warmer climates, cool colors are great choices—particularly overhead. Mary painted the ceiling of one guest room Sapphireberry (2063-60). The walls are Alligator Green (2143-20). A second guest room has Jamaican Aqua (2048-60) on the ceiling. Mary mixed a custom color for the walls, but a close match is Silver Half Dollar (2121-40). The trim is Pewter (2121-30). In the upstairs bedroom, the ceiling is Chartreuse (2024-10) with "a touch of brown." The white walls, also cooling, have three coats of flat white enamel. • Add a Gentle Surprise Mary energized the mundane washroom off of the dining room by painting the walls a delicious Pumpkin Pie (2167-20). |
