Coneflower (Echinacea)
These prairie stalwarts come in the original pink-purple, plus whites, yellows, and even tangerines. These perennials are a high-summer to early fall favorite of bees and butterflies. Monarchs in particular rely on them for fuel for the long migration to their winter homes in Southern California or Mexico. Bonus: Songbirds love the seeds. (Zone 3-9)
